Having a hard time giving away your possessions? (9/30/2010)

Sunday, August 28, 2011

I too had this issue for quite some time now. My mom's side of the family has visible packrats, and I found these tendencies within myself and my living space. However, I couldn't find it within myself to give away my hard earned (but barely used) items. But thanks be to God who always caused me to triumph! (2 Cor. 2:14)

God intervened when I asked for guidance and instruction (Proverbs 3:36) by giving me the following outline. I titled this instructional as "Affirmation". I definitely had to affirm that "I am not selfish...I have a spirit of giving!" over and over to develop an obedience to purge some things. I'm thankful to God that my words and actions produced some space and clarity in my mind and living areas. Your words and actions can do the same according to God! (Matt. 12:37; James 2:26)

I pray that this is a helpful resource to you as well!

Until I type again,

Affirmation: Declaring Positive Change in All Areas of Life
I am not selfish…I have a spirit of giving!

Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV)
But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT)
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control; There is no law against these things!
· When acting by the Holy Spirit, you are able to give and be giving; w/o the Holy Spirit, you may be frequented by frustration and find yourself hoarding what was meant for someone else to possess.

Romans 8:28 (NLT)
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
· Trust and believe that in your giving, God will ensure that your actions will work for your benefit and for the benefit of those who will receive your charitable items.
· A key word here is charity: the charity of God and your charity work hand in hand to benefit God's beloved people (John 3:16). Keep this in mind as you purge your material items.

Topics: Giving, selfishness, hoarding, packrat, material goods, purging, charity
